Out of The Blue is a song from the second solo album by the Pink Floyd guitarist David Gilmour. It was released in March 1984. Apparently, Syd Barrett really did wander into the studio while one version of this song was being recorded. He was so disheveled, it took a bit of time for the band members to recognize him. Roger Waters says the song was not initially explicitly written with Syd in mind. “Come on you painter, you piper, you prisoner and shine.”… |

This song is probably Floyd’s most oft-covered song, and has been a staple at most Floyd concerts, with or without Waters. The Comfortably Numb guitar solo is frequently voted the best guitar solo of all time. I’ve seen guitarists spend hours trying to accurately ape Roger Water’s guitar tone used in those solos…. |
