I simply cannot express how amazing it is to be completely immersed in this album. For me, It’s like hearing it for the first time, times ten. Mastering engineer, Alan Parsons took full advantage of the Quad format, by ping-ponging sound effects, and the crazed laughter around you. On ‘Us and Them’, the echos circle around you, rotating the sound field each verse. If you have the proper equipment, and the source material, I urge you to experience it for yourself. I recommend experiencing this with four full range speakers and a Quad receiver, but any DTS capable home theater receiver will also do the job. Even with bookshelf/satellite speakers and a subwoofer. This unreleased (at the time) Alan Parsons Quad mix has been available since 2006, via a pirated copy supposedly made from the master tapes. As of September 27 2011, you can legally acquire this Quad mix in DTS form via; “The Dark Side Of The Moon – Immersion Box Set” on disc 3 . I’m not sure if it’s 4.1 (for people who do not have full range speakers, and rely on a sub for handling bass). Equipment used in video: Kenwood KR-8340 Quadraphonic receiver Four Sansui AS-200 3-way acoustic suspension speakers Audio is fed to the receiver using an HP desktop, using the front/rear outputs of the 5.1 soundcard. Asus laptop is used to control the HP Computer, and serve as a monitor, keyboard and mouse, via windows remote desktop. Sony Vegas Pro 10, is what I used so that you can see the front/rear waveforms ……

La canzone è uno struggente omaggio all’ex componente della band Syd Barrett, che aveva lasciato il gruppo nel 1968. composta da 9 parti e viene solitamente suddivisa in due: la prima va dalla parte I alla parte V, la seconda dalla parte VI alla parte IX. La sezione conclusiva (o parte IX) della suite rende l’ennesimo omaggio a Syd Barrett, con il sintetizzatore che, in coda al brano accenna la melodia di See Emily Play, una delle prime canzoni pubblicate da Barrett con i Pink Floyd….
