Good Day Pink Floyd fans. Come in here dear boy, have a cigar, your gonna go far….! My studio cover of Paranoid eyes, from Pink Floyd’s 1983 release The Final Cut. The Final Cut album had a strong impact on me as an acoustic guitar player… the drama of minor chords, diminished chords, seventh’s etc… are very strong. Any true Pink Floyd fan would agree that this album was a critical mark in the career of this incredible band. No tabs, please don’t ask. I mostly improvised guitar licks and single note playing, the keyboard playing was entirely improvised after playing particular parts of each of the songs. I would try to find a notable sound (strings, clarinet, flute, oboe, saxaphone, organs… whatever) and try to duplicate after probably 100 attenpts to learn what sounds good to my ears to be like Pink Floyd. I just played guitar chords I found on ultimate-guitar.com… ultimate-guitar.com/pink_floyd/final_cut_album_crd.htm And if the band you’re in starts playing different tunes I’ll see you on the dark side of the moon…. |

My studio cover of NOT NOW JOHN, written by Roger Waters, deals with the Falklands War, and criticism of Margaret Thatcher, as well as general criticisms of the greed and corruption that Waters saw. It also shows the corruptible and fruitless labor of post-war America, Europe and Japan. The wording is such that it mainly tells of the changing of global trade and that a new leader is emerging in the consumer goods industry, Japan. I played a Gibson ES-135, Gretsch Corvette, Fender P-Bass, Casio Keyboard, and a few tracks of vocals. This is a very difficult song to sing and also kind of hard to play (on the forementioned instruments), and sound anything like Roger and David. FUN FACT: I just did a little research and found out that RICHARD WRIGHT does not perform on this track on the studio release in 1983. Pink Floyd had Andy Bown (of Status Quo) playing organ on this track for their studio album recording. Andy was also the bass player in the “Surrogate Band” during Pink Floyd’s The Wall tour in 1980 and 1981. Did you know that?… |
