This is the first song I wrote in Guitar Pro 6….

This is the first song I wrote in Guitar Pro 6. Most of the riffs were written in ’06-’07 during a very creative period of my life. I quit drumming from 2001-2007 but kept at it on guitar and kept the flame alive. Now I can piece together ideas from both instruments into song skeletons. As I’ve said, Guitar Pro 6 is a most worthy program for composing music, especially for we who are far from fluent readers of musical notation. The middle section is a two-guitar tapping harmony that I happened upon one day and couldn’t stop thinking about. It’s very inspired by some of the parts on Mike Oldfield’s epics like “Ommadawn” and “Incantations” … even though he was never known to do much two hand tapping, his amazing legato sound and the harmonies he made are ingrained in my DNA. You can hear shards of electronic music in everything I write, as my favorite band in all the world is Tangerine Dream. I will also divulge that I wrote the melody in the chorus without ever having heard Philip Glass. When I heard “Glassworks” a few years later, the similarities to one particular melody were shocking. You might pick up on it if you’re familiar with Glass’ work. I shut up now….
