Five minutes before we start our Pink Floyd tribute set with ‘Shine On You Crazy Diamond, I press button number 3 on my Roland sampler and it starts this intro piece. I constructed it from the band’s interviews about Syd Barrett and an edit I made from the final track from their 1975 album, Wish You Were Here. I’ve isolated the interview sentences and panned them to different speakers. It may sound a bit confusing but it seems that you can hear every word while two to three people talk at once. The “It’ll all end in tears!” final few seconds are taken from BBC Radio’s ‘The Hitch Hiker’s Guide to the Galaxy’ and then the best G minor chord ever used in music starts the concert….
