|
This is a video of Pink Floyd performing Wish You Were Here Live off the Film Delicate Sound Of Thunder which is a Pink Floyd concert video taken from the A Momentary Lapse of Reason tour. Maybe this is just me, but I believe this song is about society, and our personal interrelationships within society. It is speaking about how we traded a real life creating what we need for survival ourselves for a modernized mechanized preform factory produced inauthentic living dead life. We traded nature for a man made urban construct. We cut down the forests in exchange for growing deserts. We fell in line with our religions and governments and corporate beauracuracies, to pay for the wars of profit they wage and resultingly become trapped in the conditioned psychological cage they have constructed. Through all of this we try and cling to our “loving” relationships with our family and life partners, but the damage has already been done and we, the once free willed mammal is no more than a killer whale imprisioned in a Marineland fish tank. Don’t believe me? Investigate the lyrics of other songs on this album (Welcome to the Machine) and the album Animals. Pink Floyd almost always sang about society, not themselves…. |
